Using Proctor Tools

The Proctor Tools feature allows instructors to grant or deny access to proctored assignments for individual students.

How to Use Proctor Tools:

  • From the homepage, click on Proctor Tools in the navigation menu.
  • From here, you can:
    • Search for a specific student
    • Click the blue Search button to display a full list of your students.
  • Once the student list is visible, select the assignment you want to manage.
  • Choose whether you want to:
    • Grant permission to start the proctored assignment, or
    • Deny access to the assignment.
  • Next, check the appropriate permission box based on what you’re allowing or restricting.
Specific Permission to Be Given Explanation of Specific Permission
Start/Re-Enter
  • The student is allowed to:
    • Launch a proctored exam without requiring a proctor to authorize them at the time of launching their attempt.
    • Launch an assignment that they requested an exception for.
  • Or, the student is allowed to re-enter and resume an attempt that has already been launched but not yet submitted for grading.
  • Selected by default.
  • The Set end date permission will also need to be applied if the Start/Re-Enter permission is applied to an assignment with an end date that has already passed.
Grade
  • The student is allowed to independently submit their assignment for grading upon completion of their attempt by clicking Submit Assignment without requiring a proctor to authorize them at the time of their submission.
  • This permission only applies to proctored exams.
Re-open if Already Graded
  • The student is allowed to re-open their most recent attempt that has already been submitted for grading and can retake the same version of the assignment with their previous responses preserved.
  • The activity's progress icon (on the student's Class Homepage and in the student's Gradebook) changes from Completed to In Progress.
Set End Date
  • The student is allowed to launch the assignment after the end date if the assignment has a defined end date in the assignment properties.
  • Click within the Set end date field to reveal a drop-down calendar that you can use to select a new end date that falls after the end date defined in the assignment properties.
Set Additional Time
  • The student is allowed an additional amount of time if the assignment has a defined time limit in the assignment properties.
  • If the student:
    • Hasn't launched the assignment, their new time limit will be the time limit defined in the assignment's properties plus the value that's manually entered in the Set additional time field.
    • Currently has an active attempt or is granted the Re-open if already graded permission, their time remaining will be the time limit set in the assignment properties plus the value that's entered in the Set additional time field, minus the amount of time that has elapsed since they started their active attempt.
  • Click within the Set additional time field to manually enter the number of minutes that will be added to the time limit defined in the assignment properties.
  • The Set end date permission will also need to be applied if the amount of additional time of the Set additional time permission extends beyond the assignment's end date.
  • If you haven’t already selected a student, do so now.
  • Click the Authorize button to save your changes.

Your selected student(s) will now have the appropriate access or restrictions applied for that assignment. Depending on the assignment that was searched (Example — using the advanced search to list all students for a specific assignment), some specific permissions might not be available depending on that assignment's defined properties (Example — the Set additional time field won't be visible if the assignment doesn't have a time limit already defined in its assignment properties).
