Once the SI Lab Portal LTI link has been configured in your Moodle environment, instructors can add a link that takes users directly to an SI Lab Portal Class Home Page. From the Class Homepage, users can access activities and view the Gradebook.
Important: A Class Home Page link provides convenient access to an SI Lab Portal class; however, activities launched from the Class Home Page do not support assignment-level grade passback to Moodle.
Students must launch activities from individual activity links in Moodle for grades to synchronize correctly.
If grade passback is desired, Science Interactive recommends hiding/unpublishing the Class Home Page link from students and directing them to activity links instead.
Know Before You Begin
Class Home Page mapping creates an LTI link that takes users directly to the Home Page for a course in SI Lab Portal.
From the Class Homepage, users can access activities, the Gradebook, Proctor Tools, and class settings.
If you do not require regular grade synchronization to Moodle, a single Class Homepage link may be sufficient for your course.
2. Add an Activity
Click the plus sign to open the dropdown and select Activity or Resource.
Note: If the tool does not appear in the activity chooser, navigate to More > LTI External Tools and enable Show in Activity chooser for the SI Lab Portal tool.
3. Select the SI Lab Portal Tool
Within the list of external tools, choose SI Lab Portal (naming conventions will vary by institution) and then click Add.
5. Select Your Class
Open the dropdown to select the SI Lab Portal class that contains the lesson or assignment you want to link. This setting may be preserved if you have already selected the dropdown in a previous session.
7. Click Save and Return to Course at the bottom of the page.
Do not publish the Class Home Page in your course. Students must launch activities from the mapped Moodle activity links, rather than the Class Home Page, for grades to sync properly; so this link must remain hidden from students.
Managing Existing Links
To modify a lesson link after it has been created:
Locate the content item within your Moodle course.
Click the three dots to the right of the assignment and select Edit Settings.
Update the destination or availability settings as needed, then Click Save.
All Science Interactive Links must be set to open in a new tab or window. This should happen automatically because of the way the external tool was configured in Moodle.
