Know Before You Begin
Before completing this checklist, your course(s) should be created or copied in your LMS for the new semester. Click the sections below to expand and review the course creation processes and confirm that your course has been set up.
Lesson Linking and LTI Integration is usually completed with our Implementation Team during Onboarding. If this is your first time teaching this course, you will need to set up the lesson links in your LMS. If this is your first time using Science Interactive, you will also need your LMS Admin to add the external tool to your LMS.
For support on the process for running your course for the first time, please reach out to your contact at Science Interactive.
If another faculty or staff member at your institution completes the course set up for instructors, please reach out to them for support with your course set up.
New courses created by Science Interactive will reflect a title with the following naming convention:
If you are teaching your course for another term, you will not need to complete the lesson linking. Follow the instructions to Course Copy from a Previous Term.
Courses copied through an LMS will reflect a title with the following naming convention:
See Step 6 for guidance on adjusting the course title.
Step 1: Set your Course Start and End Dates in SI Lab Portal.
The start date controls when students can begin enrolling in the course and ordering their kits. Without this, the connection from your course to the purchasing site is not created. For step by step instructions, see How to Set Course Start and End Dates in SI Lab Portal.
DO NOT change the setting for "Who can self-enroll into this class?" These are intentionally selected by the Science Interactive team based on how your students will access the course.
If you change that setting, your students will run into issues ordering their kits.
Step 2: Confirm Links in your LMS are Opening Correctly.
All Science Interactive links should open in a new tab or window.
Click on the activity links in your course to ensure they are opening in a new tab or window and directing to the appropriate course.
If you believe the links in your LMS are linking to the wrong course, please reach out for assistance.
Step 3: Confirm your Course Home Page link in your LMS is hidden/not visible to students.
If your course is integrated, the Course Home Page link in your LMS is a shortcut to SI Lab Portal for instructors. Students should not navigate to their labs through the Course Home Page or it will break the grade pass back. This link should always be hidden or unpublished.
Step 4: Post the appropriate Student Order & Access Guide in your LMS.
Select the guide needed for your course's purchase/ordering method and post it in your course as a student resource.
- Direct Purchase
- Voucher Codes/Bookstore Order
- Kit Code Access (for courses where a Lab Kit is provided to students)
Step 5: Post the following Student Help Center message in your LMS.
Science Interactive has a dedicated Student Support Team! Copy and paste the following message into your LMS so students know where to get support.
If you need help with ordering or have questions, visit the Student Help Center. There, you can connect with a Science Interactive team member via chat, phone, or email.
Live support is available M-F, 8:00 am-5:00 pm Eastern Time
Step 6 (Optional): Modify your Course Title
If your course is copied through the LMS, a new, longer course title will be generated during that process. We recommend updating the title of your course for simplicity and ease of identifying the correct classes when working in the Portal.
For step by step instructions, see How to Change Your Course Name.
Optional: Training Opportunities!
