Setting the "Complete When" Option for Lessons
When you're creating a lesson policy set or editing the properties of an individual lesson, you’ll see a section titled "Complete When." This setting is specific to lessons and determines how lesson completion is tracked.
We recommend setting this dropdown to "Viewed All Sections." This ensures two key benefits:
- Students will see a green checkmark once they’ve completed the lesson and submitted it.
- Instructors will see accurate status indicators (colored icons) in the gradebook, reflecting true lesson completion.
Why this matters:
Some lessons may contain "hidden" questions (these are built into the platform to support manual graded questions) but are never shown to students. Although students can't see or attempt these questions, the system still considers them part of the activity when checking completion.
If the "Complete When" setting is “Viewed & Attempted All Sections” or “Viewed & Attempted & Passed All Sections” it can cause confusion, as the system may not mark the lesson complete—even if students have done all the visible work.
By choosing "Viewed All Sections," you avoid this issue and ensure both students and instructors have a clear, accurate view of lesson completion.
