General Overview

Expand or collapse content What is the new Science Interactive Lab Portal?

Our new Lab Portal is the new lab management platform that is replacing SI Cloud.

Expand or collapse content Why are we moving away from SI Cloud?

SI Cloud served and supported thousands of students and instructors for over a decade. However, our new platform addresses its limitations head-on, offering faster performance, more customization, and a smoother setup process.

Expand or collapse content Is this just a redesign of SI Cloud?

No. This is a new platform designed with the core functionality that you depend on in SI Cloud, plus new and improved features that deliver a better experience for students and instructors.

Expand or collapse content What are the top improvements?
  • Significantly faster grading tools
  • Seamless, institution-wide LMS integration (no course-by-course setup)
  • Full editing control for instructors
  • Improved scheduling tools and due date settings
  • Enhanced academic integrity tools
  • Future-ready features, including AI support (coming soon)
Expand or collapse content What changes for students?

Students will experience a smoother and more intuitive platform, with no major changes to how they access or complete labs.

Expand or collapse content Who needs to migrate?

All current customers must transition to the new Lab Portal by Spring 2026. The SI Cloud platform will be retired after that semester.

  • Pilot Cohort: Summer 2025
  • Fall Cohort: Fall 2025
  • Spring Cohort: Spring 2026
Expand or collapse content How will I know when I’m migrating?

We’ll notify you via email in Spring 2025 of your institution’s assigned migration cohort.

Expand or collapse content Where do I confirm my migration cohort?

In the email that shares your assigned cohort, there is a link to a survey where you can confirm your cohort or flag any concerns.

Expand or collapse content Can I delay past Spring 2026?

No. The final migration cohort is Spring 2026. SI Cloud will be shut down before Summer 2026.

Setup & Experience

Expand or collapse content Will there be a change in the overall cost with the new Lab Portal?

No. There is no immediate and direct change to cost with the new Lab Portal. Our goal is to continue to provide more value for the price you already pay.

Expand or collapse content Will this migration affect how students purchase or access their kits?

Students will still be able to purchase kits through inclusive access, vouchers, the bookstore, and directly from SI.

Expand or collapse content Will I need to rebuild my course?

No. All existing course content and structure will transfer automatically.

Expand or collapse content What will I need to do?
  • Confirm participation in your assigned migration cohort
  • Complete a one-time LMS integration (15-30 minutes)
  • Set a new password (your login email will stay the same)
Expand or collapse content Do I need to sign anything?

No new adoption agreement is required. You just need to confirm that you’ll participate in your assigned migration cohort.

Expand or collapse content Will I need to adjust any settings after migration?

With the addition of new features and functionality that give you greater control and customization ability, we recommend reviewing new features like due dates, repeat attempts, and grading options.

Expand or collapse content Will I have access to training and support?

Yes. We'll provide walk-throughs, how-to resources, and a direct support channel to guide you through the transition. You can sign up for a live Lab Portal training with our team at a time that works for you here: https://www.scienceinteractive.com/training/. More times will be added each week to ensure you have an opportunity to join and learn how to make the most of the new Lab Portal.

Expand or collapse content Does the new portal require integration?

While you have flexibility in how you set up your course, we strongly recommend integrating your LMS as it significantly improves the experience for both you and your students by eliminating duplicate work and providing a single access point for course materials. However, we know integration isn’t one-size-fits-all. We offer flexible options for how you integrate—reach out and we can discuss options.

Expand or collapse content I have had challenges with LTI integration in the past. How does the new LTI integration make it simpler?

We recognize there have been many LTI challenges in the past. That’s why the new process was designed to make it faster and easier to integrate with your LMS, whether you're using Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, D2L, or something else. Now, the setup is faster, requiring only 30 minutes of time. Plus, LTI is now setup at the institution level, so it only has to be done once.

Expand or collapse content What if we’re planning changes to our LMS?

Whether you’re upgrading your current system or switching to a new LMS entirely, we’ve got you covered. Our team will work with you to find the best integration solution and timeline—so you can keep moving forward now without compromising future plans.
